Autism Program

Autism Program at SCESC’s Northern Hills Academy in Sparta, NJAutism is on the rise. In 1995, statistics revealed that 1 in 10,000 children were diagnosed with autism. Today, 1 in 98 children are diagnosed with autism. The cause of autism is unknown, but research supports early intervention programs such as the one right here in the heart of Sussex County.

Our autistic program fosters communication, social skills, and self-help skills. It is designed to meet the needs of those who fall in the autistic spectrum, including students diagnosed with autism, PDD, or Asperger's Syndrome. It is an eclectic program, accessing research-based models. Our program utilizes an eclectic approach that draws from philosophies incorporated in the TEACCH Model, Greenspan's Floor time/DIR Model, and Sensory Integration. We will be utilizing these various strategies to enhance socializing and language development as well as other skills.
